The Alpha movie was a significant addition to the YRF Spy Universe and left an indelible mark as the first woman-led installment, sweeping attention with its blend of high-octane action and star power. The movie garnered mixed to negative reviews from critics, with The Indian Express calling it a “dull, dreary” film and Scroll. in noting it as a “rote action thriller” where brawn beats brain. Plot
Alpha follows the story of three different characters connected by a dark military experiment, all tied to Sita, played by Alia Bhatt. A highly trained assassin named Sita uses her lethal skills to expose a corrupt and rogue Army officer named Fateh Singh Lakhawat, played by Bobby Deol, who has been running a massive illegal super-soldier program and cheating the system by creating enhanced killers. As Sita gets closer to the truth, the story slowly reveals a deep personal connection between her and Fateh, tied to a painful past that neither of them has fully let go of — Sita was stolen from her real family as a baby and raised as his first and most prized lab rat.
The second half of the film explores the past of Sita’s actual family and her long-lost sister Durga (Sharvari). Sita, with a sense of revenge and justice, joins hands with RAW chief Vikrant Kaul (Anil Kapoor) and RAW agent Durga to bring down the corrupt and unethical person named Fateh and expose the rot of the military system that allowed this kind of corruption to thrive. War’s Kabir, Hrithik Roshan is also seen in a cameo appearance to assist the ‘girls’ in the task. It’s definitely not your typical entertainer in the spy universe, as the film’s action, emotion and keen social commentary on identity and freedom make it more than just a spy movie.
