Milkha struggles to make ends meet, turning to small-scale crime, before later enlisting in the Indian Army and taking to running. He starts training under the tutelage of his coaches, and gradually evolves into a national runner. His hard work and perseverance earn him a place on the international stage, where he represents India with honour.

But Milkha’s journey is not without its challenges. He experiences emotional and personal struggles, including the loss of family and friends, and setbacks in his career, including a pivotal race that he cannot forget. Eventually, he comes to terms with his past and fears and redeems himself by achieving extraordinary success on the international stage.

The movie not only displays his sporting triumphs but also his personal struggles, as he overcomes his personal demons through determination, hard work and belief to become the “Flying Sikh.”
